Step 1: Select a structure for rendering. If you like, right click here to save a sample molfile to a directory on your computer. Alternatively, draw your own molfile using MDL ISIS/Draw and export the structure to a directory on your computer.
Step 2: Create an HTML file to house the molfile. Open your favorite ASCII editor or HTML editor and type the following:
Step 3: Use File/Open to open the HTML file in your Web browser of choice. You should now see this:
Step 4: Changing the embed tags enables you to set display properties for rendered molecules, such as color, 2D or 3D display, and rotation. In your HTML file, replace display2d=true with display3d=ball&stick.
Reload the page in your browser to see the following:
You can also manipulate 3D display mode using Rasmol script commands.
The Developer Support section has a wealth of information that will assist you with the Chime Embed and Rasmol tags to be used with this plug-in. The documentation also contains sample code in certain areas to assist you. Click here to view an AVI clip [3.8 MB] on using the right-mouse options with Chime (Hold the mouse down on the Macintosh). Note: this is a large file and is not recommended for those whose internet access is anything less than a 56K modem.
